We are pleased to announce that the ASMI Postgraduate Summer School 2026 will take place at the University of Cambridge on 18–19 June 2026. The Summer School offers an interdisciplinary forum for doctoral students and early-career researchers (within three years of completing their PhD) working in Modern Italian History and Italian Studies.
After several very successful editions in Italy, the Summer School returns to England, and we warmly welcome proposals on any topic from the nineteenth to the twenty-first century. Themes may include, but are not limited to:
- history of colonialism(s)
- history of migration(s)
- anniversaries, public memory and the civic calendar
- gender and queer studies
- conflicts, resistances and mobilisations
- environment, energy policies, climate change and conflict
- identities, citizenship and belonging(s)
Participants will present their papers in panel sessions. Papers may be delivered in Italian or English and should not exceed 20 minutes. Special sessions on presentation training and PG/ECR opportunities will also be offered, with academics available as mentors.

ASMI will also offer a limited number of £200 travel bursaries for unwaged postgraduates and independent researchers. Applicants wishing to be considered for a bursary should submit a short explanatory note (max 300 words) together with their abstract and bio.
